Video Of The Week

This weeks video is the amazing Us by Regina Spektor. Even though this song is 6 years old it's still one of my favourites musical creations EVER! FACT!

I first heard this song during the awesome 500 Days of Summer starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. If you haven't yet checked out this movie then all of us at SAM demand you go see it...NOW!

If you like Regina's sound then i recommend listening to a few more of her tracks, mostly 'Eet' which was recommended to be by Deafen the Creatures own Daniel Finney .

So here it is, Regina Spektor's 'Us'. And remember to keep checking out this blog for more videos, news, photos and Live Reviews.

SAM's First Live Review [Deafen The Creatures]

Friday 17th February was the first gig of the year for SAM. RAM's pocket radio was playing at The Shipping Forecast in Liverpool, supported by Deafen the Creatures and last minute additions Battleships and a duo (who's name we never managed to get) featuring the bassist from Razorlight Freddie Stitz.

Now we have to mention due to public transport issues we had to cut the show early so unfortunately we never got  a chance to hear Battleship or RAM. But we will be sure to check them out next time we get a chance.

First off, the folk music stylings of Freddie Stitz's duo. I do consider myself an open minded person but personally I wasn't a fan. The first track had way too many yodels for my liking, although the rest of the crowd were dancing and even singing along to their rather upbeat cover of Cab Calloway's Minnie the Moocher. If you're a fan of folk jazz or anything similar then these guys should be right up your alley so check them out.

Next up, Deafen the Creatures. A Northwest band from Widnes, Liverpool and Manchester. Their acoustic electronic sound is something I found quite different from the music I normally listen to. The piano, guitar and electro beats go perfectly with the amazing vocals of Elinor Alicia Gray and Kieran Joyce. By this time of the night the crowd had doubled in size and it could clearly be seen that DTC had managed to blow them away.
Things seem to be going great for the band as they have recently been interviewed on BBC Radio 6 and their local Halton Community Radio.

Do yourselves a favour and make sure you check out the amazing band whenever you can. All info can be found on their website here and check out the free EP to download 'This World Of Ours'.

Overall this was a great night even though we didn't get a chance to check out Battleship or RAM's pocket radio.

We'd also like to take this chance to say that we did manage to take photos which will be added once our new photo gallery section is finished so make sure to check our Twitter for all SAM's blog updates.

The Shipping Forecast in Liverpool is where our first gig story began :)

I went to this gig with such an open mind like I have done with the last few gigs I've been to. I love the element of surprise!

The Shipping Forecast is a great venue. It was a chilled atmosphere with funky beats then we discovered the N64 Mario kart omg! Even though Sonic is clearly better but we'll leave that debate for another time.

The folk music stylings of Freddie Stitz's duo were up first. I'm not a massive fan of their music but they were entertaining and became better towards the end. The crowd enjoyed their quirky folk style.

Then Deafen the Creatures came on and just loved 'Finding Flight' the second track from their set list and is now a favourite of mine.
The electronic and acoustic music combined with the beautiful vocals worked so well, it felt like we were in an indie movie.

DTC set list:

Empty sky
Finding flight
Intro from 'this world of ours'
Time to go
Saviour of this town
It's over now
We remain

Deafen the Creatures are ace! So have a feel for them with their free EP to download 'This World Of Ours' on their website http://www.deafenthecreatures.com Not only that, the artwork done for the EP by Jen Birch is brilliant. http://breakwires.blogspot.com/
They also have a youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/DeafenTheCreaturesTV

It was a shame we couldn't stay longer unfortunately but it was an amazing night.

Feel good tune of the week!

Alesso & Sebastian Ingrosso - Calling was on Zane Lowes BBC Radio 1 on 8th Feb 2012 at 7.40pm. I remember this moment well because at that moment the number 14 bus to home became pleasant :)
My mp3 wasn't working as usual so I put on the radio because I need music to see me through any journey. If anyone has ever been on the 14 Widnes bus then you know you definitely need music! Not the stuff chavs like to blast at the back of the bus because they think they're "Hard!"
When I get bored of my playlist or my mp3 breaks, which happens alot. I can always rely on the radio :D
Firstly there was just a crowd cheering and then this song kept building up which fired me up and made me want to hear more. I just kept thinking I want to be back at Creamfields! In the middle of this grim bus my inner raver was prepared to dance her ass off! With glowsticks! If only it was a a party bus.
I think this song is like six moths old but I was so glad to hear it. I love my club music and feel good tunes. This is one for me! This is my feel good tune of the week :)
